Before adoption, all animals are spayed or neutered at our clinic, brought up to date on vaccinations, are tested for either heartworm or feline leukemia/aids, and are microchipped. I sincerely do not like writing this review but I feel it is necessary to be the voice for these dogs at Kent. I was a volunteer at Kent for quite some time and I have experienced issues regarding the conditions of the dog kennel that need to be expressed. * No Air Conditioning. A non profit Animal Shelter not providing any air conditioning in the kennel for these dogs?
On brutally hot/heat wave days I have been there when it has felt hotter in the kennels then outdoors. There are 4 large fans used for the dogs and the entire dog kennel building but only blows and circulates the hot air. *No hot water heater in the dog kennel. Without any hot water how can dog bowls, towels, toys, etc., be cleaned appropriately. Dogs are unable to be bathed and some of these poor dogs have come from some terrible even filthy places and yet they are unable to be bathed due to the animal shelter not providing any hot water.
I can unequivocally say there is one dog in particular who has come from Thailand, has been at the shelter for over 2 years & has never been bathed. Staff can't even wash their hands using hot water. *Jagged fencing. I have witnessed a particular injury of a dog who needed several stitches due to jagged fencing between the dog runs. It was so serious the poor dog needed several stitches in his mouth and down his throat. *Understaffed.
Only 2-3 employees are scheduled to work per day in the dog kennel which can facilitate up to 34 dogs. So 2 possibly 3 employees need to walk, feed, clean, socialize with all the dogs and also handle any other situations that may occur ex. dog injuries, potential adopters, deliveries, etc. The shelter relies on volunteers to come and help but being the shelter does not provide paperwork regarding policies, procedures or training it is yet another responsibility of the kennel staff that takes time away from the dogs. * Office staff. Very unpleasant These magnificent dogs have been lucky to have been rescued but for the conditions of their temporary homes at Kent, not so much. Laura H- Animal Advocate

From talking on the telephone with Laurie, who returned my calls twice, all was great when we dropped off and picked up our fur baby! Everyone was so kind, professional and they truly care about these animals. I highly recommend Kent animal shelter! They took great care of our girl, sent her home with all the instructions for after surgery care on paper and discussed how to care for her best as she heals from her spay. Thank You to everyone today at Kent Animal Shelter. ~ The Tufano Family ~ Luna's Family
