Lyons Kennels Established in 1959 by Gerald Lyons, Lyons Kennels is the oldest and most trusted boarding kennel in Centre County, Pennsylvania. The facility started with 10 kennels, and has since expanded to comfortably board 100 animals. At Lyons Kennels, while you are away, your family pet will be cared for by an experienced staff in a safe, clean and comfortable environment.

Gerry Lyons first had the idea for opening a boarding kennel while he was in the Marines. He saw how his fellow Marines needed boarding for their dogs when they were deployed overseas or went home to visit relatives.

If you want a place to dump your pet in a cage and leave them and that's it- this is the place for you. I took my Great Dane puppy here for 2 overnights- She came home acting fine, other than the fact that she immediately drank THREE BOWLS of water and scarfed down 2 bowls of food. Never in her life has she done this. If it was the case that she would not eat there- they should have told my husband when he picked her up!

But she clearly had drank barely ANY water. Ny girl went 4 days without eating during a fake pregnancy and this is what she looked like- so I know she didn't eat. I know it wasn't the food because I sent OUR own special food for her. I should have known when every pic of a dog I've seen online from this place has empty bowls in with the dogs : This place is Literally a doggy jail.

A small area that they get locked in until you pick them up. I went here based off reviews and recommendations, but all recommendations are on the owner, and how he's a good person etc. he was very short with me. Didn't ask for any vaccination stuff, literally asked no questions at all. "Just here put your dog here" and that was it! For all he knew my dog had zero vaccinations and something that could have spread to all the dogs there.

Don't bother trying to save a buck. I was okay initially with the "no frills" but after a week long stay, my dog needed a bath(x2), new collar and new bed. Upon picking her up, the floor of her kennel was smeared with vomit and poo. The old man said that it must have just happened but it wasn't fresh. I got out of there as fast as I could. Not friendly and not clean. Pay the extra few bucks a day for your furry friend.

If all you want is a place to dump your dog for the day, I guess this will work. The people were friendly but this is the most unprofessionally run kennel we've ever used, from Maine to Florida to the western US. Not even the bare minimum of information was requested from us. Vaccination history of our dog, contact info, phone number, not even his name.

And I could tell my dog absolutely hated it. We found another place and drove 3 times as long the wrong direction just so he wouldn't have to go there again, and they were fantastic from top to bottom, and cheaper on top. How this kennel has rated 4 stars is a so beyond me. The only positive thing I can really say is it has a good location.

Gerry is a great man with 50 years of service. Gerry has taken dogs in from law enforcement and gives and gives to our community. Gerry is very knowledgeable and will find you that hard to find product. His supplies as well as his expertise is top notch in the area. I have used Gerry for our Goldens dog food and he has been amazing in price. Check him out, great personality and performance standards and knowledge in the industry.

We have kenneled our dogs at Lyons over the years. They are kind and compassionate and always put the animals first. If you have doubts, please talk to others who have personally used their services or call Lyons directly and ask your questions. Do not accept 3rd party stories and facebook rumors as truth.

I am often at Lyons to walk and socialize rescue beagles who board there before they get fostered or adopted. I am perpetually grateful for the kindness, clean accomodations and good care our dogs receive at Lyons.

Mr Lyons cares about your pet. He's been around a long time. This is his livelihood. Ask for Peg and she'll answer your questions. We support local businesses, like this

Very friendly, personal service. This is the only place in Centre County that I can get my dogs food, and they have stayed open a few extra minutes when I wasnt able to make it before closing. They've also mentioned, since I work with rescue dogs, that if I ever knew of anyone who couldn't afford dog or cat food that they would work with them. I've personally never had to take advantage of that offer, but I was very touched nonetheless.

My dogs were well cared for and safe. They were nice enough to squeeze in baths even though it was a last minute request. Dogs don't get playtime or walks so I wouldn't use for more than a night or two but they were happy and not stressed when I picked them up. Service was friendly. Kennels were a nice size with indoor outdoor access.

The owner was very helpful and honest about questions I had about products. I felt like I was talking to a caring neighbor rather than a businessman. You can't walk in there expecting uniform service but you will receive sense that you purchased your pet supplies from someone who cares about the animals and not the money. He offered me a product for free to take home and see if it worked well for my newly adopted dog. I feel confident and sure about going there for any product and or questions.

This kennel is no frills facility, but the employees care and will keep your pet well during their stay. I personally had a scenario where my spouse was in the hospital, and the gentleman at Lyons allowed my friends to pick up my dogs and pay later instead of my friends paying on pick up. Good honest folks.

We recently started taking our 2 saint Bernard pups to Jerry when we can't be with them. The peace of mind we have dropping them off is second to none. When we pick them up, they are happy and completely exhausted. The list of people I trust with my dogs can be counted on one hand, and Jerry is definitely at the top of that list!

Mr Lyon's is the ONLY person I have let groom my two Border Collie mixes since the terrible experience we had in a State College chain store. His food and service prices are very fair and I can afford to feed my dogs the best quality when I shop there. Mr. Lyons is a true animal lover and goes above and beyond to help local shelters and rescues.

Amazing place! Never realized the pet supplies they have there! Its SOOO not just a kennel! Food, treats, supplies, flea stuff, collars, leashes, and the list goes on! I WILL BE BACK for sure. Extremely kind and helpful. And SHOPPING LOCAL makes a big difference in our communities!

If I could give it a negative five I would. Don't EVER take your animal here. A rescue got sent to there of ours where we watched the guy we turned it over to choke it. when I got there and asked to see the dog I got yelled and swore at, they lied to my mother and told her they did all that for free when the borough specifically told her they paid them for a full examination.

I had to call the state police trying to see the dog and the guy that yelled and swore at me called two of his family members to show up before they did and they LIED to the state police saying that I came in with an attitude. they do not care about your animals they care about your money. In my opinion they are horrible people and a disgrace to kennels and vets everywhere.

I will be doing all I can to see there business dwindle and hopefully close. Take your animals to somewhere that cares and don't call the borough for lost dogs. They're the ones that choked the dog and called my sister at work screaming at her that the dog jumped out his window. I ask you to think about why they wouldn't let me see the dog? And further more would someone that cared about animals as much as you do denied you that? The most horrible place I know.

Used this place for the first time this weekend. Contrary to some other reviews, the kennels were clean and my German Shepard loved it. He also got bathed while there and came home smelling nice. Mr. Lyons was a very nice man. Will use again in the future! Thanks!

This was the most disturbing place I ever experienced. The smell when I picked up my dogs was disgusting.i don't know how they are still in business. I do not recommend this to anyone.

So we love our dogs like most dog owners and I have to say, if you absolutely care for your pets, then do not take them to this kennel. I pulled up and I instantly said this is not a good place. Unfortunately we were in a bind so I left my two dogs there. When we called, we were told that both dogs would have cots. The cots consist of a cheap piece of cloth on the floor.

We were also told that each dog would have stainless steel bowls to eat and drink from. The water bowl is a 5 gallon bucket when I showed up. The kennel was not clean at all. Also, I went back to get my dogs the same day bc I could not bare to leave them there. When I went back, nobody was available so I walked straight into the kennel (nobody around) and leashed my dogs up without anyone noticing until I was just about in my vehicle. I never write reviews but this is one I felt compelled to write. I would never recommend this place to anyone for any reason.

So, I offered to take care of a friend's dog while they were on vacation, but I wasn't able to take the dog the first day they needed dog sitting. They boarded her here for that night. I went to pick up the dog who I hadn't seen in over a year. They had no idea where the dog was at first, and then insisted that a similar looking, but much larger dog was my friend's dog.

I thought she must have grown a bit (she was young). I packed the dog up in my car and called my friend while driving home, but he didn't answer right away. I got all the way home when the kennel called, informing me that THEY HAD GIVEN ME THE WRONG DOG. The only reason they knew or cared about this was because the owner of the dog I had in my car showed up looking for his dog.

I returned to the kennel and returned the dog to her proper owner. I eventually found my friend's dog terrified on the floor of a cement and chain link fence stall. These people shouldn't be entrusted with any living creature, let alone a loved family pet.

I've been a regular customer of Lyons kennel for 3 years. I moved to Bellefonte from a larger city where my dog went to "resorts". The price is fair for what you get. It is a very no frills kennel, no play time or doggie daycare, but they do have indoor / outdoor runs so your dog can get some fresh air. I've kenneled my Rhodesian Ridgeback there 20 times.

She has never been sick after pickup and was kept warm in the winter. The drop off and pickup hours are very flexible. Mr Lyons is a good man and is very friendly if you take the time to stop and chat with him.

I have never boarded my pet here, so I can't comment on that. We buy our dog food here, and find that they are extremely accommodating, and typically the best price around. We've ordered special and haven't had any issue, and they are always generous with samples and give aways.

I was stuck for somewhere to board my dog over Thanksgiving. When I called to make the reservation the woman who answered the phone was very friendly, however when I arrived with my dog at the kennel the older man who I encountered was very rude! He found my name on the reservations list and pulled my dogs leash out of my hand. I asked if he wanted her vet records and he said no.

I started to tell him that my dog is a little anxious around strangers but good with other dogs as another pet owner was walking in. The older man drug my dog into the other room and said your dog will be fine and disappeared with her in a back room. If I wasn't stuck because of the holiday i would of NEVER left my dog there. Then when I went to pick my dog back up I encountered a woman who I asked how my dog was, she told me she had no idea.

Then asked if my dog was the yellow lab, No my dog is a white border collie mix. She yelled at a different older gentleman to go get my dog. He yelled at me for the leash. Obviously I left the leash with my dog. This place was a nightmare to deal with. And to ice the cake when the older man brought me my dog she was filthy and smelled completely awful!

Straight to Petco we went for a bath and flea dip. I wouldn't take my worst enemy to stay here let alone any animal ever again. The only reason this place received 1 star is because you have to chose one!

I was looking for a place close by to keep my cat for a week or two while I was gone and found this Lyons online. The price was good and the place looked decent, a separate kennel for dogs and cats. When I got my cat back, he had worms. I'm assuming he got the worms from fleas so I had to stop by the vets and give him medication to get rid of both problems.

I won't be going back there with my cat again. On a positive note, the folks who own the place are very nice. As far as dogs, I don't have any so I can't make any assumptions or review that area.
