Finding a vet in Seattle is no small task these days. A LOT of places aren't taking new patients. I was fortunate that Hawthorne Hills took my dog as a patient because I recently moved to Seattle and needed to establish vet care. Receptionist, vet tech & Dr. Nevill were all great to interact with. The exam was thorough, and I didn't feel like they were trying to sell me on anything unnecessary.
I felt like pricing was what was to be expected (my dog got 4 vaccines, fecal test, heartworm blood test, & 6 months of heartworm & flea/tick meds). Happy to have a good vet near my new apartment!

HHVH advertises as following science-based veterinary medicine. Having background in academic research myself, I was disappointed to see that Dr. Riedinger's understanding of professional literature was pretty basic. She recommended a blog as a source of information and seemed to rely on hypotheses by a selected researcher instead of systematic literature review and consensus veterinary medicine. Moreover, the staff does not listen to what pet owners say.
Even after being told on multiple occasions that my cats refuse to eat the recommended food, the staff kept repeating at nauseam that I should feed it to them. Currently, the clinic does not allow in-person appointments. That system may allow for better protection against Covid but it certainly does not create a good platform for successful communication between pet owners and their veterinarian.
The street where the clinic is located is very loud and our phone conversations with Dr. Riedinger were dominated by the noise of nearby Roosevelt station construction. Considering the points above, it's no wonder that our cats continue to be sick with no clear diagnosis or treatment plan in sight. We have just requested moving our pets' records to another veterinary clinic.

My experience with this veterinary hospital has been nothing short of amazing. Every staff member I've interacted with has gone above and beyond to help me and reassure me! Recently my cat, 13 years old and with a laundry list of health problems, needed a refill on her medication. Given that my normal vet is far away and inclement weather got in the way, I made an effort to find a closer veterinarian who could act as a pharmacy to fill a script.
In the end they didn't have what I needed in stock, but not only were they patient in accepting my multiple phone calls, phone tags, and faxes, but guided me to a solution even though they couldn't provide what I needed themselves. It is rare to find such a caring team of individuals and thanks to them my cat is doing well!

Some of the vet techs have really put a damper on my experience here. I think the vets are very knowledgeable and helpful based on the information they provide. I find it helpful that they provide everything, including the exams and x-rays, explaining why things are recommended. Unfortunately, the vet techs I've talked to weren't always the most friendly or didn't seem to know when advice wasn't relevant or too much. Personally, I'm someone who asks questions if I have them and if I need help.them constantly assuming otherwise starts to get annoying on my side when I have tried a lot of the methods they suggest and I'm already stressed out.

I have been bringing my dog, Fran, here since I first got her a few months ago, and the staff at HH have been nothing short of amazing to both Fran and I. We absolutely love every person we have interacted with. The Vets are extremely knowledgeable and patient with my excessive questions, and the vet techs and staff are so kind and patient. They are great listeners and always proactively follow up in a very timely manner to see how Fran is doing. My dog gets extremely excited to see them and come to the vet because of how well they treat her. I trust them so much and cannot recommend them enough!

This practice has really gone downhill with vets who are inexperienced, incompetent and uncaring. What was once a great neighborhood practice led by Dr Reddinger is now just an anonymous rotation of inexperienced junior vets who mismanaged our sweet dog's care and nearly killed her with their incompetence. Glad to say we switched vets and our dog is now doing better than she has been in years! Beware! This is not the place for anything more than the most routine/basic care. These people are far from the best of their profession and are only interested in $$$.

Been bringing my dog here for 3 years now. They are great with him! He can be anxious around new people (or really anyone - he's a rescue), but he is always comfortable here. They don't just check his physical health but ask about his behavior, and multiple times Dr. Neville has had extended conversations on the phone with me giving me advice about his health. They care about pets, and their role as a part of the family. They are professionals, great listeners, and great doctors. Highly recommend you give them a shot.

We have had 5 pets as patients of Robin's and her staff. A basset hound, a bernese mountain dog and now 2 cats and our 2nd Berner named Smokey Bear. Starting on Labor Day weekend Smokey has had a number of issues (probably related to allergies.). Robin and her team have been wonderful but this week they were exceptional. Smokey had an ear infection earlier in the week and while the Clinic had no appointments available - Dr Neville was able to handle everything through Tele Vet.
Unfortunately by Thursday Smokey had also developed a huge hot spot on his flank and other smaller hot spots. The team had no appointments until next week. Realizing that Smokey could not wait until next week Robin created time on Friday, saw Smokey, treated him and got him on the road to recovery. As of today he is doing so well! Many thanks to Hawthorne Hills, Dr. Robin and her entire team for their great work.

I have been taking my senior golden retriever to Hawthorne Hills for a little over a year and I am so pleased. Yes, as some of these negative reviews have mentioned - they are not the cheapest clinic but I believe the quality staff, vet techs, and doctors are worth it. My dog is extremely anxious in vet clinics, the vet techs and Dr. Riedinger does a wonderful job of accommodating my wary pup.
I have never felt like I was pushed to purchase meds or other unnecessary services. Each unexpected "additional" expense I was asked to consider during my check-up visits were all necessary vaccines, screens, tests, preventative measures, etc that my dog needed to ensure he remains healthy. He was overweight when I took him to the HHVH for the first time, other vets could not help us with solid advice. Dr. Riedinger prescribed a year long diet plan and my dog has lost significant weight. Again, not the cheapest but it ensures his health. Dental cleanings for my ~75lb dog costs around $800, including blood work and anesthesia - which is not a bargain price but again worth it! I highly recommend HHVH.

Used them for a bit. Then when I needed a form filled out emergency travel so my dog can stay in a boarding kennel, they refused, and wanted a new appointment, but were already "booked up for the day" (parking lot was empty). The last appointment was less than 2 months ago and my dog was present and healthy. All I needed was an acknowledgement, but they wanted to nickel and dime me again with a full examination at their convenience.
Good thing they are moving out out of the neighborhood because they just lost a customer. Would highly recommend someplace else, as this place seems more about $$ and less about care and empathy towards pets and their owners.

Very disappointed in this place! After spending over $1,000 and many months, my dog had to be euthanized. I was devastated, of course and was followed to my car by a staff person, telling me they'd send the bill by email today. It was there by the time I got home. I've had dogs my whole life and have never paid at the time of death. I was sent 2 emails and one call, to which I told them I'd pay when I came in to pick up ashes, as I have at every other time I've had to do this.
After 12 days they called me and I said I'd be right down BUT was told that there had been a problem! My dog was kept there, on ice, without telling me because I hadn't paid $120! I was livid! The veterinarian called later that day and I let her know how upset I was. She said the body would be taken asap and I'd get a call when the ashes were ready.
She seemed unaware that this happened until she called me back. I was so furious with this place that my husband went to pick up the ashes and paid them. I wouldn't have paid nor would I had thought they would expect payment after what they did. I feel there is a lack of compassion by the staff and a lack of communication. We weren't sent a condolence card until a week after death. I've always received one the day after. I won't go there and I'm telling everyone to think before using them.

This is an amazing veterinary clinic! They are incredibly knowledgeable, warm, & welcoming. If you spend some time reading their website and bios, you'll find that this is an impressively educated team. But, more importantly, they run a great practice and truly love animals. It is clearly a mission driven environment that goes far above & beyond simply being a business.
Since moving to the neighborhood 1 1/2 years ago, we have been interested in taking our babies to Hawthorne Hills. When the time came that our aging dog needed additional care, they did an exceptional job taking care of her (and us) through what turned out to be a devastating metastatic liver cancer diagnosis. We felt confident in them and appreciated their guidance and support through the painful process of losing a beloved pet. I'm certain they made it all a little easier-- on her and us.
They were so great (the whole team) that we came back with our newest addition--a baby puppy. We were thrilled to see them in happier circumstances and felt just as welcomed as ever. Our puppy felt safe and comfortable here, quickly adapting to the staff. They were yet again, knowledgeable and personable-- giving us great insights into puppy parenthood! We will absolutely continue to go here!

We are new to Seattle and took both of our dogs here for an annual exam that cost about $600. The clinic said they also want to do half yearly exams, which seems like an unnecessary expense. Then--Our golden retriever got a small hematoma in his ear. We took him in multiple times for the ear to be drained and bandaged. After the first 3 times, I expressed disappointment because the ear was getting worse instead of better.
I asked for the ear to be bandaged on top of his head so the bandage would not slip off after a few days and the ear would not be as apt to fill with fluid. This worked well. But--Within 2 weeks after they removed the bandage, the hematoma was back. They warned me this could happen but this time, the bandage was so poorly placed that it came off immediately.
I called first thing on Monday to ask them to redo it and find out why the fee was twice as much. The reception desk said they'd have the person who did it call me back. Instead the Vet tech called me back 5 hours later. She said it was a different Vet that bandaged the ear, Dr. Eskesen. The extra charge was because this vet doesn't "know" my dog, and that typically they would have done a full Vet visit for this because it was a "new" problem. Wow. Ineffective, inefficient, and costly.

Highly recommend Hawthorne Hills. I take my cats and dog there and have been treated wonderful. From the moment we walk in my pet and I are Greeted by name. During the procedures the doctors are very good at explaining and answering all questions and concerns.the vet assistants are very good at follow up and additional information as well.

I couldn't ask for a better situation than bringing my cats to Hawthorne Hills Veterinary Clinic - we brought our one cat after she had an emergency vet visit elsewhere. We arrived a little early to fill out paperwork, and then we were seen right on time. I didn't feel rushed either. The front desk people, the doctor - *everyone* they were all really nice, efficient, and friendly to us.
I felt very positive and comfortable the whole time. I'm glad I found a neighborhood place (I live 8 minutes walk away from their front door!) that is compassionate, helpful, and useful.

We have brought our cat Angus in for a check up, shots and sedation bath and haircut. (Because he is a 22lbs wild boy tiger-esque main coon with big teeth and claws to show you when he scared! lol) We took him to 3 groomers before this and Angus got fired every time for biting and making a run for it! They have been patient and very helpful. I like them.
Not sure about the previous reviews. Doctors recommend what they think. I marked off the things I wasn't willing to do/pay for and they were fine with it. Just say no thanks I appreciate knowing all the options/possibles and being able to make those choices.

I was initially very impressed with HHVH: the staff was friendly, the doctor seemed knowledgeable, and the facilities were clean and well maintained. However, after taking my dog there only two times, I started to get a bad feeling about them. On both visits, they loaded me up with products and medications that my dog didn't even necessarily need- and without even consulting me first.
They never gave me any option to decline what they were forcing upon me, and I ended up spending hundreds of dollars more than I had wanted or anticipated. The experience left me feeling suspicious of their practices, so I switched to a vet that values the well being of my pet more than making money.

I moved to Seattle from the Eastside 6 months ago, and just got a new kitten. I already have an adult cat but with the new addition it was time to find a new vet. I called around a bit and when I talked to Rachel at HHVH I knew they would be great for me and my cats. She gave me the breakdown of all the prices before even going in so we would know exactly how much it is.
The vet appointment itself was great. My boyfriend and I came out of it feeling really good about the Dr. The support staff and vet assistants were very knowlegable and friendly which is essential. They had to bump our appointment back because of an emergency with another cat, but they were very nice about it. It gave us a chance to meet some of the other customers who seemed very satisfied, which is a good sign.
After the appointment I went to Costco to buy flea medicine and saw that they had a Costco brand choice for less than half the price. I called the vet to ask about it. They hadn't looked into it before so they told me I could try it, but they recommend frontline because they know that works. Ten minutes later they called me back to let me know about the research they had done for me.
They also emailed me more information the Dr looked up for me. I felt this was above and beyond the service I would expect from a vet. Overall, the prices are decent, good location with parking. Awesome staff. Definitely my new vet!

Starting to question the handling of our puppy's allergy symptoms. Bianca has suffered from itching for quite awhile now, trying out different foods, remedies, etc. All on the recommendation of our vet. To be blunt, we had these recommendations and a promise for a follow-up that never happened until I initiated back myself! I agree with the other reviews that this place is very expensive, and granted you don't want to skimp on your pet's health.but I truly wonder.

I have had dogs all my life but got my first kitten in January, and picked HHVH based on a combination of Yelp Reviews and the American Animal Hospital Association accredidation website. They're probably on the expensive side, but I've always had great service. Their boarding service is also reasonable, and they do a really good job checking on your pet's health and happiness while they are there.
My kitten had a cold when I first got her and was on antibiotics. I was having a really hard time pilling her, and when I called HHVH, they told me to bring her over and they'd help me out. One of the techs gave her the medication for me, and showed me how to use a pill gun in combination with wet food. They didn't charge me at all for this, and I was really grateful. Great service there. Overall, everyone there has been really kind and professional-- I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.
