SWCHS is currently operating BY APPOINTMENT ONLY for animal meet and greets, adoptions, viewing of animals, and volunteering! Donation drop offs only can be done during any open business hours. During kitten season shelters, rescues, and humane societies everywhere experience high numbers of feline intakes. Capacity For Care means that we stay within a certain threshold of the amount of pets in our care in order to meet the needs of every animal already admitted to our shelter. Facilities put a pause on taking more animals in to prevent flooding the kennel space because this diminishes the quality of care.
Services
The South Wood County Humane Society is a non-profit animal protection organization. Our mission is to build a stronger bond between people and pets through education and adoption with the goal of promoting the spay and neuter of animals to help reduce pet over-population.
Since the early 1970s South Wood County Humane Society has played an integral part of meeting the needs of the area's animal population. Taking in stray and surrendered companion animals and working to find them new homes as well as overseeing animals care needs while they are at shelter are some of the many services provided to the residents in our area.
There are many animals at our shelter looking for a great new home and a second chance. Any animal that comes into the shelter as a stray is not adoptable for up to five days. This allows owners time to locate and reclaim their lost pet. If your pet has gone missing or you have found a pet please contact the Humane Society immediately.
Congratulations on your decision to adopt an animal companion! South Wood County Humane Society is happy you are considering adopting from our shelter. Our goal is to find permanent, loving and responsible homes for the animals in our care. We do not place holds on any animal for adoption due to kennel space.

The staff here do a great job of taking care of the animals and keeping them clean. They're always friendly when you have questions and don't rush you through the process of adoption. I was very happy with my experience.

This is a very nice and professional place. Caring people and clean shelters that the animals are comfortable in. All around a great place. I would recommend to all that pass by. These are so many places out there. This one is helping Pete and people alike. I'm getting a dog.

I just volunteered to walk the dogs. Walked my first one today. First interaction with the dogs since my Yorkie passed away two years ago. It was a good experience. The people up front were very upbeat and friendly and the young man who handles the dogs was very polite and friendly. Overall I enjoyed the time with the dog I picked to walk. I plan to return. FYI there are plenty of animals there who need some lovin attention and a good home. Please consider them when planning to get animals in your future.

With excellent assistance from a staff member Jessie we left with smiles and a new best friend! She gave us a tour, introduced us to some potential furry matches and let us play with our new pup and how to care for him with his cone on his head. She was extremely helpful answering all of our questions and she took the time to go the extra mile for us and every animal. We are very pleased

I applied to adopt a cat and heard back in a timely manner, they kept up with communication. I got to bring home my little baby Orion today. Their adoption process was straight forward and really easy, and I was well informed on medical history.

I was able to adopt my kittens the following day I called! Getting them spayed and neutered took some time afterwards since they were busy but they are very healthy!

Extremely upsetting when you submit an adoption form, call the organization, send several emails concerning a kitten you really want to meet, and no one contacted us back letting us know the kitten was adopted. Thank goodness we didn't drive over an hour to meet him. However, we were fortunate enough to find a wonderful shelter where they called us back several times in regards to our adoption form.

They are super nice to us, the shelter is clean, and we were allowed plenty of time to be with our new little bundle. we were so pleased, we adopted a kitten and an adult cat, both. I would never trust Wood Co to adopt an animal.
