Services
We have one of the largest indoor-outdoor facilities in Hartford County and have the capacity for 35 dogs. Tim is the Owner and Operator of Free Range Dog Containment which has been in business for over 10 years. He is a member of the International Association of Canine Professionals and is a Certified Dog Trainer.
All day play time is included with each day of boarding so that your dog(s) will be plenty tired for sleep-time in our spacious kennels. We will not admit any dog that shows aggression towards any other dog or member of our staff. All dogs will spend their days with our regular daycare playgroups at no extra cost unless specified otherwise by their owner.
Free Range Dog Containment provides professional installation, training and unequaled customer support AFTER the installation and training process. Their goal is to help you design a dog fence which gives your dog the freedom they deserve, yet keep them in the parts of your yard that you want them to use.
Behavioral studies show the key period of socialization for puppies to humans is 6 - 8 weeks. This is normally when the mother weans her puppies and they begin to become more independent. This is also when the pups' nervous system reaches the structural & functional capabilities of an adult. What all of this means, is that he's ready to learn & socialize.

My dog boarded at Free Range for a holiday long-weekend. I brought his bed from home, which the staff and the website said was fine. When I picked him up, at first I was told by the manager that his bed "may have gotten wet" and that staff "may have left it outside and it got rained on". When I questioned this, the story changed and I was told that another dog escaped its kennel multiple times over the weekend and that the other dog may have peed on his expensive bed.
The bed smelled of urine. I had to cancel the rest of my holiday plans to go wash and dry the dog bed. The manager was not at all apologetic and told me that they couldn't control if another dog peed on my dog's bed. We have done daycare at Free Range as well. Unacceptable for boarding.

Best doggie daycare for sure! Staff are ALL pet lovers and really care for the client's dogs as if they were their own. Lots of space to play and socialize both indoors and outside. The facility is very CLEAN. Our dog has been going for 4 1/2 years now and the socializing he gets at Free Range has clearly been a positive element to his overall personality.

The owners r awesome. They have a really awesome staff. Initially i read some questioning reviews but everything has been great. Our pup literally sprints out of the car to get inside. On pickup he is always very friendly with the owners and staff. The staff and I even practice tricks. We try to have Luka catch his end of day treat. He has only caught it once but it's still fun. It's really a great organization. I definitely drive a little out of the way to use the service but it's definitely worth it.

I was excited to send my dog here because it was convenient for work. When I went to look it over they wouldn't allow me to look around the facility. Against my better judgement and because of the convenience factor I decided to try it anyways. I only went three times before i stopped. Each time I dropped my dog off he would put the brakes on when they took him through the door.
I brought food for him and they forgot to feed him and every time I picked him up he smelled like pee. The last time I went to pick him up I decided it wasn't the place for me. He won't be going back. If your dog continuously tries to back out of going into a facility that should be fun there's definitely a reason for it. Trust your dog.

Great experience for my 8 year Leo the Lab over the past 3 years. Our new 8 month of lab mix with honey badger rescue is a handful and staff have been excellent with managing excitement. The staff is a dedicated group of dog lovers and are very personable. Whenever there has been a concern about one of my dogs they don't tell me a 6:00PM when I pick them up, they call me right away. Pets are our best friends and considering how short of time they are with us they deserve their time.

We've been boarding our lab at Free Range for 7 years (and sometimes the day care). They are fabulous! My dog can't wait to get out of the car and into the kennel. As soon as they open the door to go in, she shoots through the door without bothering to even look back! The borders play all day with the "day campers" and she always comes home tired and happy.
Since the dogs are loose in a supervised "pack, " your dog needs to be temperament tested before doing either the day care or boarding. If your dog is not friendly with other dogs, your dog won't be able to kennel here. The boarding charge is all inclusive -- no extra charges to feed your dog's own food, no charges for medicine. Of course, no charge for playtime because that is what they do all day. Be sure to get a bath after a boarding stay because they will get dirty from playing all the time. The owner and staff clearly love and care for the dogs.
