We're now on dog number two at Great Dog. Our previous pup Scout was a regular at Great Dog and they were brilliant with him, training, day care and boarding. Even their staff were there for us when my wife and I got married looking after Scout. We're now onto new pup Skye who was a real problem child. I say was, as due to the help of Great Dog (both Susan and Missy getting positive mentions here) to turn our cute but satanic pup into an upstanding canine citizen.
The staff have changed since we started with Scout over a decade ago, but under Judi's leadership the dog first approach remains the same. I'd recommend Great Dog without reservation.

I cannot recommend this place. A year after I started taking my puppy there, I noticed the area between her eyes looked pink, like something rubbed against it. I inquired and got no reply. I also noticed a dark line across the bridge of my dog's nose. A few weeks later, I found my dog starting to growl at and go after other dogs she would see during our neighborhood walks.
The owner told me my dog was reactive and needed some training. I paid for 8 sessions of training. The owner called me in one day and tried to demonstrate how well my dog responded to their training. My dog ignored the owner's attempts. She suggested my dog take a break from their place and that my dog could use some personal one-to-one training.
I was so exasperated and wondered if I had made a mistake getting a puppy. While waiting for their trainer to contact me, a friend recommended a certified trainer he knew. I contacted her and we immediately set up three sessions. The trainer came to my house and within 10 minutes, had my dog lying in a crate (she is not crate-trained) and very calm.
Meanwhile I found someone to take my dog to the park three days a week while I was working. I could see my dog's personality start changing and she became less ornery and more loving around the house. I decided not to go back to Great Dog. After making that decision, I received correspondence about my dog's time at Great Dog. They had been using a muzzle on her (without telling me) that was too small and the irritation on her face was because she kept trying to take it off.
Staff contacted my Vet and Animal control (without informing me) to make sure the swelling around my dog's eyes would would not result in long-term damage from the muzzling. In this correspondence, I was also informed that employees were not allowed to tell dog owners about any incidents that occurred at the daycare. Interesting because I often asked if her behavior was okay or if she had growled at other dogs there or were there any unusual incidents.
I can only presume that the negative changes I started to notice in my dog's behavior after a year of going there may have been a result of their starting to muzzle her and separating her from other dogs there. I never have and never saw a need to muzzle my dog, or any of my previous dogs. My dog is happier since leaving Great Dog two months ago.
She isn't trying to go after every dog she sees during our walks. And I am happier as well. I am no longer having second thoughts about having gotten a puppy at the beginning of Covid.

Great Dogs five day training was kind and effective and helped me create a positive relationship with my wind-up puppy, Pablo. Following the training course, Pablo is at Great Dog's doggie daycare. We ended up back where we started after dealing with four other daycare facilities. Experienced, certified and warm hearted people run this show. Thank you thank you! Pablo's Mom

I dont know about the Obedience School but the grooming is great. I use to take my dog in to the groomers before we moved out of state. Before the groomers never let me go back but in the last 6 months the one groomer would let me come and distract my dog with treats since he doesn't like his paws touched in anyway. It makes a difference as she can clip his nails faster.

This is the very first one star review I have done. Great Dogs Business Model is a poor one. No grooming rates are on public display. The rate charged is not mentioned at drop off. You are told the price when you pick up your pet. And, be aware, the rates change at random This is not a customer friendly shop. The customer is not told ahead of time if they will be providing a full groom or a clean up.
Or even if there is a difference in look or price. So, it's a surprise at check out. Also, you have to pay prior to seeing your pet. How do you know how much, if any, tip you should leave if you are not able to appraise the job done? The groomers themselves are not open to discuss any critque, they just pass the customer along to another groomer. Like I said, a very bad business model.

Great Dog STOPS Grooming Services Covid-19 Update I waited for 6 weeks before they could get Sally an appointment. I called them the day before the appointment just to confirm and I get a recording that their Grooming Services have ended as of 4/2/2021! I had heard NOTHING from them about the closing. (They have my phone# and email on file.) Now checking for groomers in my North Seattle area for a place to take Sally. Up in till now I have been a loyal customer for over 16 years with 2 dogs.

I showed up today for my dog's grooming appointment only to be told that the appointment was cancelled. They didn't even attempt to call me and said they sent an email. I have no emails from them and have never received an email from them. I wonder how much I would have been charged if I didn't show up for an appointment and just sent an email.
We won't find out because I will never go back. I made this appointment months ago and had even called two weeks ago to see if there were any cancellations to get in earlier and at that time they confirmed my appointment and didn't say anything about cancelling. I have been going to this business for years both for purchasing items for my dog and for grooming appointments. It is clear they don't care about their loyal customers.

I just want to give a huge shoutout to Rachel. Our Shih-Tzu Gizmo has been terrified of going to the groomers since his 1st grooming appointment. We took him to Petco, which now I know was a huge mistake. They shaved him down so close that it looked like major rug burn all over his body. His private area looked like it was bleeding that is how red he was.
He also got an infection in his ears probably from not disinfecting the tools properly. Anyways, since then he shakes uncontrollably ever single time we take him to be groomed. Rachel listened to our concerns, took her time loving on him, and gave him the best cut he has ever had. We told her what we wanted, and she did exactly what we asked. Thank you so much Rachel for giving your love and attention to our baby. We will definitely be coming back to you, so please don't ever leave.lol!

Our dog loves this place. A bit expensive, but we think it's worth it. They cater to your dog and their needs. The good: Trustworthy Open early, fairly late, can do late pick-up for an extra cost. Easy to Contact The bad: Expensive Hard to get into - the forms you have to fill out are very long, and you need many shots, a feces check, and a play test for your dog to get in.
It ends up being a long process, but ultimately I think this filters out bad dog-owners. Over the last few years, our dog has only gotten a doggie cold a couple of times, nothing major. Bit of advice - dog boarding fills up early, schedule weeks, if not months, in advance.

We love Great Dog! Our sweet golden is a regular here for grooming and we could not be more pleased with their services. Everybody we've interacted with here has been incredibly kind and patient. Services are very reasonably priced and it never feels chaotic like some other grooming locations I've been to. Grooming takes anywhere from 1.5-3 hours and he always looks and feels great when he's done.
Last time we picked him up, he was wearing a new bandana -- too cute. Would definitely recommend Great Dog. Thoughtful, caring, reasonable, and they do a greedy job! I hear they also have training and doggy daycare too if that's something you are looking for.

I enjoy a lot about great dog. Lisa with grooming is amazing with my dog (who is not the easiest). I took a star off because i was not impressed with the group training class I took. It did not feel much more helpful than if I were to go watch YouTube videos. It's been years since I have used their boarding services but I was happy with it. I have also dog the private training sessions and enjoyed that as well.

"Puppy play" is literally just that. Puppies playing. There's a reason this class isn't called "Regulated play, teaching appropriate play and is good for all puppies." Could be renamed to "Puppy play where so-called instructor holds back over-excited dog so when they are let back in they are more excited than before, learn nothing and charges at other dogs and instructor takes photos." Glad we checked out a play session for $10 before committing to the $125 classes.
If the instructor can't properly facilitate play (and in an hour class that proceeded it teach her human students how to do it if that was what was expected) then I have 0 confidence that she can teach much else. For $10 if all you're looking for is to throw your dog in a room with other dogs, this is your place. Don't expect any instruction on appropriate play and you'll be a happy camper!

Sadly this is one of those businesses where the staff is great (see my previous review) but management/ownership is not so great. It's fine until a mistake happens and then one discovers that the owner/manager has no customer relations or communication skills! (I will not be returning.) She does not call when she says she will, and then blames everything on computer/telecommunications glitches "over which we have no control." I've been a grooming customer and private training customer and when I signed up for an obedience class and complained that it was larger than the 5 dogs they had promised both verbally and on their website (class ended up having 8 dogs and 15 people in a small room, in addition to the trainer and her dog), I was told it was a computer glitch and that the owner would call me.
She never did! When I finally tried to call her a week later (after 2 e-mails with no response) she just gave me an angry earful about all the problems they were having with Comcast and then told me they couldn't serve me and my dog! Their loss! I highly recommend Ahimsa for North Seattle dog training.

We are home from a week-long trip and have a very tired pup sleeping his Sunday away. We can't thank everyone at GreatDog enough for looking after Bear and keeping in contact with us from afar. It makes enjoying a vacation much easier knowing that your beloved pup is being cared for by loving and professional dog specialists. We look forward to a lifetime of vacation stays for Bear, as well as daycare and training classes. Thank you!

Today, I had my two dogs nails trimmed for the first time at Great Dog. What an amazing experience! Lisa was the best I could have asked for.usually my male dog is not good with nail trimming. Usually someone has to hold him on his side laying down because he is so apprehensive. Not Today.he was an Angel.just stood and let Lisa cut his nails.unbelievable! Thank You Lisa! I'm So Happy he was so at ease with you which is a high level compliment!

Thank you Kaila for an awesome groom! This was Hailey's first full groom and we felt anxious about how the cut would turn out because a lot of groomers cut doodles like they're poodles. Kaila exceeded our expectations, Hailey's cut turned out adorable! Potential clients, bring photos with you of the look you want.

Stacey and the staff at Great Dog have loved and cared for our dog Teddy for over three years. We are leaving the area and hope to find another daycare/overnight facility that will provide the same outstanding service that Great Dog did. We will miss you guys every day! Much love and our eternal gratitude for loving Teddy!

I've now used Great Dog for its grooming services and daycare, with plans to board my fur baby their over the holidays. The staff there genuinely love dogs and are very attentive to my needs; they are familiar with the temperament of my dog's breed (Shiba) and recognize that she behave differently than other dogs when introduced into the daycare groups. While their prices aren't the cheapest I've seen in the area, it seems like a good price for the peace of mind I get knowing that my dog is being well-taken care of.

Love this place, it's your one stop shop for everything dog related! The obedience classes have really helped us build a relationship with our puppy and she's such a good girl now. The shop has great products to choose from, always happy with the selection. The boarding has also been great, it's such a relief to have a good place in the neighborhood that we can take our dog and not worry too much about scrambling to find a friend/family to take care of our puppy if we go out of town.

Judi was very quick to respond to my review and claim I had the wrong facility. I privately gave her my personal information but never heard back. Judi, now you have my info, and I'm sure have confirmed that I was very much a customer. I'm curious why you would take the time to respond to me when you thought I wasn't a customer but not respond when I've confirmed I was?

I enrolled my rescue pup in the Puppy Express class + Puppy Play at 5 months old. In our first session, I learned how to teach him come/sit/stand/name recognition (which he would practice over the next few days). He also met a mentor dog which clearly calmed him and the other puppies down. Before the end of the week, Forrest could come/sit/stand, and it was all thanks to the clear instruction from the class.
Name recognition took an extra week of practice. There were only 3 other dogs in our class. They were all SUPER CUTE! I also learned what normal puppy play behavior is, how and when to correct him, and most importantly I became comfortable with socializing him with other dogs. Because of this valuable experience, I was happy to let him meet any/every dog at the park, and now he is a gentle and loving adult dog.
Because of my work schedule, we weren't able to attend the included 2nd and 3rd sessions before my puppy turned 6 months old (that's the age limit for Puppy Express). However, he was able to learn the basics that I was expecting from the 3-class series, all in the first session. Prior to this, I had read puppy books and knew generally how I "should" train him. I'm so glad that I took the classes though, because the instructors really know what they're doing and are totally worth the money. I would definitely go back to Great Dog for more training, and I have recommended their classes to others.
