As a 501(c) 3 non-profit animal shelter, we transfer in dogs and cats from public shelters where they are in danger of being euthanized due to space or financial limitations. We then provide them with the best possible care and enrichment until we can help them find their forever homes. As a non-profit organization, everything we do is made possible through donations of funds, supplies, and time from members of the community. There are many ways to support Pets In Need, including fostering, volunteering and donating cash or in-kind gifts that help us carry out our life-saving mission.

Our mission is to provide animals with loving care and lasting homes, to partner with communities striving to do the same, and to advance our no-kill legacy. We accomplish our mission by transferring cats and dogs to our facilities from public shelters in the Bay Area and beyond when they are in danger of being euthanized due to space or financial limitations.
Lost Animal Registry incorporated as a 501 (c) 3 animal shelter under the name of "Pets In Need". Services expanded to include financial assistance to pet owners interested in spaying/neutering their pets, adoptions, boarding of homeless pets, and emergency veterinary care. Pets In Need moved to Whipple Avenue in Redwood City and opened a small animal rescue shelter. The Crockett Memorial Fund was established by board member Pat Sinclair to assist low income seniors with the cost of animal care for their pets.
All of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and ready to start the next chapter of their lives. Our adoption specialists are happy to help you find the pet that matches your home and lifestyle. Review our requirements and fees before your visit to make your adoption process a breeze.
Pets In Need believes in the importance of dog training to help develop and grow the bond between a dog and a family. A well-behaved dog makes for a happier home and will give you peace of mind when you bring your canine companion around friends, family, and children. Below is a list of recommended group training classes around the Bay Area that support and utilize positive reinforcement training methods. These classes offer puppy socialization, basic obedience training for juvenile and adult dogs, and specialty training.

My husband and me have been looking for a kitten for awhile. We decided to adopt one and i've been checking the petsinneed.com almost everyday. They had made a schedule for a cute kitten and two days later they called me and said " someone already adopted the kitten". I said okay, i kept looking for a kitten. Then i saw another kitten on their website, they made an appointment for me and guess what?
The other day they said "the kitten is already adopted". So, this happened 4 TIMES! Whenever i wanted to see a kitten, they dont let me see them because the kittens are already adopted. So, why do you make an appointment then? That's ridiculous! I would never go to the website again cause obviously these people are very good to make people excited first and then disappointed!

Wish we could give 0 stars. 7 Puppies died from their inability to correctly care for animals during transport. all avoidable mistakes but these folks decided to take shortcuts. the puppies traveled over 100 miles, crammed into a crate meant for one 40 pound dog, with no water or proper ventilation. in a van with countless other dogs suffering the same fate. they should all experience every single second of what those puppies experienced

I wish to update that Pets in need did reach out to me regarding the card charges. I believe that I resolved it with my card Company before this, however, it is nice to know that they are concerned and willing to follow up. What i really need is a spay surgery for my 2 female cattins. At 8 months old and never into heat, they are Cattins. I will call them again. I desperately need their help.

Got my cat from here last year and I really liked this place. Sad to see in the news today that 3 of their drivers let 7 lab/pit puppies die in the back of a van while driving through Central Valley while it was over 90 degrees out. I blame everyone from the top down for not vetting and training and supervising it's workers. Disgusting.

Rating them for their spay/neuter service. My husband and I rescued a litter of kittens at the end of July. There was no mama cat in the picture and we took them in when they were about 4 weeks old. (Bottle feeding them! Fun stuff). My husband and I kept two and the other 2 found a home with one of my coworkers. I searched several places trying to find affordable options to get them fixed.
This was by far the cheapest option in the area. They release appointments on Monday morning on their website. I secured spots for my two kittens for an appointment a few weeks out. Service was great and cheap! Highly recommended.

As previously stated I did hire a professional trainer to give this opinion on the dog aggressive resource guarding, it is a major problem which your agency never addressed in the re-listing of this dog. Your reply implies that I am at fault, however this opinion is from a PROFESSIONAL dog trainer and my review is to let people know that the Palo Alto office does not know the dogs as well as advertised and that people need to be wary that your descriptions are not valid and that they should spend their money elsewhere to protect their family.

Taking off one star because the initial lady who helped us seemed really short and irritated with my moms questions and her English speaking skills. Almost turned us off to the whole process. Everyone else I spoke to and interacted with was amazing and we got to adopt a beautiful girl easy process and turn around time.

I've had amazing experiences with Pets In Need! Most recently I adopted a very sweet kitty with the help of Morgan who immediately responded to my inquiry and thoroughly and quickly answered all my many questions and concerns! Also, a year ago I also fostered a kitten from their foster program and was impressed at how professional, knowledgeable, and attentive the staff was. I am truly appreciative of Pets In Need and can only say great things about my experiences.

We adopted our 1 year old dog from Pets In Need in Redwood City just a couple of days ago. The people there are absolutely amazing! The behavior specialist came out and talked to us as well before we adopted and asked if we had any questions. Brittany, who helped us with the adoption, was absolutely amazing. She was so helpful and friendly. The facility itself was clean and the animals looked so happy in their own rooms.
I was so glad to see that there were no bars/crates/cages. We had an amazing experience adopting from them. I would highly recommend Pets In Need and their staff when it comes to adopting a dog.

I recently adopted a four-legged bundle of joy from this shelter. There are many things to love about this place. The animals look happy, the kennels are spacious and they dogs have playtime. The staff genuinely cares about the dogs and the kitties and is invested to help the behavior of the animals so that they socialize and reduce anxious behaviours.
My doggie had a thorough medical and dental exam since he is already 8. Mikayla, one of the staff members, had a really good connection with the senior doggie I adopted and gave me very good advice on how to help him adjust to our new home. Consider donating to this shelter, they are doing an awesome job!

The staff at Pets In Need are amazing, they are super sweet and accommodating. My previous cat with almost identical physical features and personality to my current one passed away about 2 weeks ago. I just adopted my new cat Lady Marmalade today and I couldn't be happier to bring her home. It is honestly a blessing to have come across this shelter that provides so much love for the animals, especially during this difficult time.

This review is bit overdue. I got my cat Phoebe here few months back. That day we went to 2 different shelters - this one and one in Redwood City. The employees and volunteers in this location were just amazing (can't say the same about RC) - they let me bond with the animals. I had 2 friends with me - we were upfront that one of them was just looking and wasn't ready to adopt a dog - they didn't mind showing her around.
I left undecided and then I called them back to "reserve" Phoebe, the communication was easy, no issues. I paid the deposit and then picked her up the following day. They had everything prepared, were really nice and professional. I'm so happy to have Phoebe and thank you all for really good experience!

Recently, we adopted a beautiful dog from Pets In Need Palo Alto. The staff was very helpful. On the first meet-and-greet, all of our questions were answered by a very knowledgeable staff behaviorist, as it was our first time adopting a dog from a shelter. During the adoption process, they made sure that we understood exactly what to do and the special needs that rescue dogs can have. We felt very confident when we left with our new addition and we are a very happy family now!

Rude, ruder, rudest. I called them to get some information on dentist and vet referrals as they are a rescue and might know some local vets. I got the rudest response from the female on the phone. This is Palo Alto? People here are generally nice. If this is how they deal with people calling them, one can only wonder at what treatment the dogs receive being managed by folks like this. Poor dogs!
