Established in December of 1996, The Refined Canine, LLC follows the philosophy of The LIMA Principle, which means we employ the Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive methods or tools to help foster a strong relationship, trust and respect between dogs and their people. Our focus on enhancing the human-animal bond is at the forefront of our work.
Puppy & Basic Manners Class - This class will focus on forming a strong bond and a good family dog by setting clear house rules and setting your puppy up to form good habits. We will cover socialization during social distancing, bite inhibition and gentling for puppy biting, and teaching foundation skills for good manners.
Puppies are learning from the very first day they are out of the womb. They are learning about the world around them, whether or not to trust people, how to get what they need and want, how to play, etc. The critical period for socialization is almost always wasted away for puppies, and they begin their lives in their forever homes with a social deficiency.
Private Lessons allow dogs and handlers to progress at their own pace. Private lessons are ideal for those who are unable to attend scheduled group classes, and for dogs who require individual attention to address specific problems. Private lessons are conducted in your own home, which allows the dog to learn in a familiar, non-distractive environment.

My husband and I have had three one-on-one sessions with Michelle and our rescue dog. We've learned a ton and appreciate her non-judgmental way of handling our questions and concerns. She's constantly thinking of ideas and strategies for us and our sensitive pup. Michelle has also been helpful with our follow-up questions over email. Hardest part is finding a time slot that works, but we've found that weekday mornings have been best. We hope to attend one of her out-and-about group classes in the future, which gives our dog another environment to learn and experience.
