The Mar Mel Inn supplies a safe, clean and friendly environment for your pet. Our experienced and specially trained team love to work with cats and dogs. We believe the social atmosphere is the reason why animals and their owners alike love to come here. We welcome your visit, to see our facility and meet our team, before making the decision to board your animal.
Services
Dogs and cats are very different animals to care for and they enjoy different routines. There are two reasons dogs love to stay here. First of all, they have their own space in which to eat and sleep, providing them with a sense of security. The dogs are boarded in your choice of indoors or outdoors kennels, both amply protected from the elements.
Whenever leaving your dog at home alone is not an option, our convenient and affordable daycare service is the solution. Dogs love routine, so when your dog stays with us, the day is planned with their needs in mind. Along with all the overnight boarders, your day visitor will enjoy 1 supervised play time with other dogs.
Our FULL SERVICE grooming is available with or without boarding. Our bathing is done using a system called HydroSurge. This amazing tool delivers a very thorough cleaning while providing pets with an invigorating and comforting massage that keeps them calm and relaxed. Our shampoos are made for the Mar Mel Inn from the finest organic ingredients by All Natural Solutions.

I found Mar Mell Inn via the internet as my husband and I went on a 9 day vacation and needed to board our dogs. We were nervous as we had never left our pets for more than a day or so at a kennel and didn't know what to expect. Note - I did not personally see the location, my husband did the pick up and drop off. He said the place was very cute and the staff did a great job taking care of our two dogs. I requested inside kennels and we paid to have them use our food. We also got the dogs bathed before picking them up. I will for sure use Mar Mel again in the future.

In response to your comment, John, I change my review to one star, because it's not okay to lie. No one ever told me her "gums were bleeding, " or that you "suggested medication." Not one time. In fact, when I called to check in on her, I was told by the woman I spoke with that she was doing fine once you moved her (after the first night). She just suggested I take her to a dog park, socialize her, and that I should take her to YOUR FACILITY for doggy day care to get her used to it. So, now you're saying you withheld health information about my dog while I was on a trip, that her gums were bleeding.
That is not okay. Also, for the record, she was not LIVING on the streets, she had owners who I do not believe abused her, they just didn't know how big she would get and she was jumping over their very short wall in front of their house. So, no. My dog is a well behaved dog who was young and had not had enough training or attention. And you just lost a customer with multiple animals. I've boarded 4 cats and 2 dogs at Mar Mel over multiple years. Hours later today, I'm still very sad over the fact that they told me I couldn't board my 2+ year old dog with them because of the first day I left her with them close to a year ago.
It was her first time being boarded, and she had separation anxiety, which I would think a reputable boarding facility would have experience with. Apparently she damaged the indoor kennel she was in, and so they moved her outside. I never saw the damage, and they never asked for any compensation, so I have no idea what that meant (visually). From there, for the remaining 3-4 days she was with them, I was told daily that she was doing much better/fine.
A little shy/stand-offish around other dogs, but fine, and they recommended I socialize her. I've spent the entire year taking her to the local dog park 4-5 days a week to socialize her. She gets along great with other dogs, has never one time been involved in a fight, and I'm constantly being told what a sweet dog she is. Today, I called to set up a weekend for her to stay at Mar Mel again.
I mentioned that she has had a lot more time to adjust, gets along great with other dogs. The owner told me he needed to talk to the other owner and would call me back. He called back a few hours later and told me they weren't going to take her. No questions, no trial run, nothing, just a no. I'm so disappointed. I found this dog running around in the street about to get hit by cars with no discipline and owners who didn't care about her a little over a year ago, and her 1st time being boarded was only a few months after that.
If it was so bad, why did they tell me every other day but the first that she was doing fine? Why didn't they try to charge me for damage if it was substantial enough that they're going to turn my dog away close to a year later? I would have been willing to pay for damages had they mentioned it or shown me photos or anything. I guess because of the pandemic when they were struggling for cash, they were not being upfront about things?
They mentioned a few times in one of my phone calls with the owner (a year ago) "the next time she's here, ." - but yeah, guess there's not going to be a next time. I don't know, I'm just really disappointed in a place I've given many hundreds of dollars to because I thought my pets were safe and cared for by experienced handlers there. I wish I could remove the 5-star review I left them before, but apparently I can't.

An update since my last review in 2014. I am still boarding my dogs here because of the great service and trust I have in the staff. I like that the staff is the same and know all my dogs well. Rosa has been handling my very fearful dog Paris since 2014. Paris is so fearful but knows Rosa well and is always so happy to see her! Lucy, my super high energy dog gets extra time in the play yard to get her energy out. My Aussie is a nipper/herder needing special handling, but Rosa and Kel know how to handle him. Love this place, Love Rosa and Kel.

IF YOU LOVE YOUR DOG OR CAT DON'T LEAVE THEM HERE! I had been using Mar Mel to board and bath my two German shepherds for eleven years spending thousands of dollars in the process and was completely satisfied until the last two times I boarded Bryson, a one hundred pound German shepherd. The first of the two, I picked up Bryson after his bath and he was still very wet with fur not blown off or brushed.
When I brought it to their attention I was told he didn't like the dryer. This had never been a problem before and is simply not true. With a slew of apologies and a hundred dollar refund Mar Mel finished his grooming. The second time when I picked him up I was told they couldn't finish trimming his nails even though they had two people restrain him in the attempt. THEY DID WHAT!
Extremely upset I brought him home to find him constantly chewing on himself. Something he had never done before. After bathing him at home the chewing stopped. I don't know what Mar Mel bathed him with or simply didn't rinse him adequately. Regardless, I'm done with Mar Mel!

I went on vacation for a week and had no one to leave my dog with, so I found this place. My dog is very energetic, this dog could run all day, I was a little worried that they would call me to say they couldn't handle him like they did at petco in Lakewood, but that's another review; anyways when I came back to pick up my dog I was amazed that my dog was super calmed.
They took really good care of my dog; charged $36-46 per day, which I considered a very good price. They feed the pets for only $2 a day. The staff was super nice and efficient, you can tell that they have years of experience. I recommend this place 100%.

I've been taking my dogs to Mar Mel Inn for about 12 years now. The rates are fair. My dogs always have a good time & come home clean & tired. The staff is great & accommodating. I don't mind there hours. It's a small facility & I respect the fact they have limited hours during the day so they can be open 7 days a week. Definitely have your dog bathed because the play area is dirt and the dogs get hosed down while they play. I have recommended Mar Mel to many friends over the years & they all board their dogs with them as well.

Reasonably priced for overnight care but the drop off and pick up hours suck. Edit: Let me clarify, as a person who works from 8 - 5 PM (which is a standard hours of operation for most businesses) not being able to drop off before work and having to leave work early to pick up before closing is an inconvenience. I appreciate your response however, due to my working hours I would like a place that is a bit more accommodating to my work schedule. I think your staff is excellent and your facilities are great! My furry baby will definitely stay with you all again.

Had to make a quick trip to Hawaii for a wedding and i worry about leaving my cats with anyone but everything worked out great leaving them at Mar Mel Inn. They provide food but i brought my own just in case. They let the cats out of the kennel if thy want for supervised play time. I called to checkin and they said everything is great. i was away for about a week and everything went really well.
Everyone there is very nice. I would recommend this place as I will be going back soon for some travel plans i have this year. They earned my trust. I feel safe leaving my prized possessions with them. Wanted to add The property is very clean. The kennel area for the cats is spacious. My cats are a bonded pair and both looked fine in 1 kennel. All the staff was really nice and i called a couple times t check up on them. I feel fine leaving my pets here.

I loved this place. It is very affordable, specially if you have more than one dog. I left my two silky terriers and my westie with them for four days. It was really cheap since they allow up to three dogs in the same kennel ($50.00 per day for the three of them). The only catch is they have dirt for the playgroung. So, if you don't pay for the extra bath, your pups will be dirty as heck when you pick them up.
The fee includes the play time, food, and "housing". My pups were supper happy when I picked them up. However, they were dirty. Just keep in mind you are getting what you pay for. I loved my experience with them and I would highly recommend them to anyone who doesn't mind bathing their pups after they pick them up.

We have boarded our cat here twice now and have been very pleased with personable attention and care. We had our cat receive a flea dip and brushed out which they do an outstanding job.even our car itself said, "Don't I look great!" We'll continue to use their boarding service and grooming. I originally chose this facility to board my dog at because I called and spoke with a woman named Rosa and was impressed with her professionalism. I had several questions about the facility itself, and she happily answered all of them, making me feel comfortable enough to leave my dog there for a night. I dropped her off a few days later and everything went smoothly.
The 2 staff members that I dealt with were great and very friendly. **Note: I requested that she be placed in an outdoor kennel in a specific area because there seemed to be more shade over there. Pick up times in the evening are between 4-530pm, which I was very aware of the entire time. At 505pm, I received a phone call from Barbara and she asked if I was still coming to pick up Stella.
I replied with a "yes" and her response was, "Ok, well we close right at 530pm." I thought that was a bit rude and unnecessary that she was calling me when I still had 25 minutes to pick up my dog, but I brushed it off. I arrived at 520pm to pick up my dog and Barbara was there to take care of me. While I was being checked out, I asked her which kennel my dog was boarded in (I wanted to make sure she was placed in the general area that I requested).
After looking at me like I have 5 heads, Barbara's exact response was, "What difference does it make?" I replied by telling her that I requested a specific kennel, and I asked her the question again. Instead of telling me where my dog was placed, she said (in a condescending tone), "Well, what kennel did you ask for?" Again, very rude and unnecessary behavior, especially with the condescending tone she had with me the entire time.
This experience started out positive and ended up turning into a negative one, all because of one person. Barbara desperately needs to work on the way she speaks to and treats people, seeing as she works in customer service. Needless to say, I will not ever be returning to this facility.

What a great place to take care of your pets when you are away! 15 years ago, we used Mar Mel many times for kenneling our dogs. A couple of generations later, we go back and the same people are still there! We have 2 young dobies, 3 years and 10 months, they have never been away from home over night before. We left them at Mar Mel for a week and when we came home, they were happy, bathed and had a nail trim.
There was no evidence of stress. This is a very clean and friendly place. Stable ownership is a major plus! I'd highly recommend Mar Mel Inn to anyone who needs to leave their pet with confidence, knowing everything is going to be OK!

After being forced out of our home and into a bad situation, I reluctantly agreed to temporarily house my kitties with a third party. The staff was very pushy and didn't seem to care enough to help my baby adjust to being away from home. Checked out of there and into a co-worker's home and he's content and back to his normal sweet self. No need for caution tape like I found on his "cage" at Mar Mel Inn when picking him up.

We've been loyal to mar mel inn for almost six years now. The staff knows Madden by name and you cannot beat their prices. Don't expect a spa day for frou frou dogs cause it's not gonna happen here. It's an animal's place. They play, bark, and sleep and Madden loves it! He's usually pooped by the time he gets home. It's probably all of the over excitement.

We were attending a convention in Long Beach and needed to find a place for our Boston Terrier while we were away. I looked to my fellow Yelpers for assistance and we found Mar Mel Inn. We dropped her off with no problem and my wife was given a guided tour. I am relating this second hand, but she would have told me anything on it. She said they were very nice and offered to put her with a Frenchie to keep her company.
Also they feed her thier food, but we have her on Blue Buffalo and when you change a dog's food they tend to have issues so they charge an extra $2 for feeding her special food. When we picked her up they talked about what a great dog she is, we already knew that. Outside of smelling like she had been in a kennel she was great and so I would recommend and use them again.

My dogs come here at least twice a year and I totally trust the staff to take good care of my girls. My Golden Retriever loves the play time and she looks beautiful after her grooming the day of pick up. My other girl is very timid and snappy. They are very patient and kind to her. I have never had any problems and will continue to use them as my boarding of choice!

I wish I could rate no stars because this place shouldn't get one. This boarding facility is awful. you have to be buzzed through several gates like a jail just to get to the entrance, and meanwhile dogs are fighting each other in the mud while some worker(?) is hosing all of them down. It was so loud I had to yell to be heard and it seemed dangerous when the worker outside started shouting at the dogs too.
I came to board my cat and was very unhappy when I saw the place. The cats are placed in wood crates inside a broom closet with a dirty, cracked, concrete floor, with literal brooms and tools surrounding them. I was told they were let out to play once a day and felt so uneasy about it, given the flithiness of the place. Then they put a bed in the cage - and it was a pot-holder, covered in fur crusted over with something left from a previous owner.
The worker I was talking to made a joke about kidnapping my cat, which made me very unhappy. I was down to my last straw when I asked for a quote on prices and it took them 3 tries (yes, with a calculator) to figure out a total, coming to a different sum each time. I quickly left and went somewhere else. I do not trust my cat's care there, and neither should you.

My dogs were not fans of this place and neither was I. I have a Malty-poo, male, 15 pounds and Lab Mix, Female, 32 pounds. The dogs are boarded in an outdoor facility. Warning: This is not an indoor kennel. And the kennels are similar to that of a shelter. If you go, you will notice that the staff wears ear plugs because of the loud barking. The dogs get only about 2 hours of playtime which is quite disappointing.
I usually leave my dogs with Petsmart Day Care where they are playing for a solid 8 hours. On another note, my dog apparently rolled in some poo while she was there (I'm not really surprised, she does that sometimes). What bothered me is that the lady running the place decided she was going to bathe the dog and charge me without even telling me ahead of time.
She had my number, she could have called. Final Review: they are good for grooming. In the summer, when it's warm at night, probably not that bad for overnight, but terrible in the winter when it can reach below 50.

We've been lucky enough to always have pals willing to take care of Charlie when we're out of town. But, things have changed with the addition of the wild pup named Penny. I don't think anyone would enjoy cleaning up whatever crazy messes Penny made while we were out. So, this time we decided to put the dogs up in a doggie hotel. Here's the thing though - doggy hotels are goddamn expensive.
Good news though - Mar Mel Inn is not so expensive. Charlie and Penny got to share a bunk for $40/day. Not too shabby. The staff there was super friendly, and I felt quite comfortable entrusting them to take care of the pups for the weekend. Unfortunately this isn't exactly the Four Seasons of pup hotels. No lush gardens or relaxing jacuzzis here. Nope.
Just a dirt lot and the kennels. But still, for the price, it was well worth it, and they even put up with me be annoying and calling to make sure all was well with Penny and Charlie.good news - all was good, and Penny was causing trouble. Business as usual.
