The practice of veterinary medicine began at our present location just after the end of World War II. In 1945, the practice was started by Dr. Tom Guilfoil. When the war ended, Dr. Guilfoil originally from Kansas decided to start his veterinary practice in Seattle Washington. They found a vacant grocery store building at our present location and remodeled it into a veterinary hospital.
Dr. Kimmel grew up in the Seattle area with many pets including guinea pigs, gerbils, fish, cats, and dogs. She graduated from the University of Washington with a BS in biology and chemistry minor then moved back East to live and work in New York City for a few years before returning to Washington to attend Washington State University for vet school.
The best vet I could have ever asked for my little buddies. They are so great with the follow-up, and always take super thorough care of them, clearly explaining every situation. They have been our vet for 12 years, and excel at everything from puppy to elder dogs care. Best Veterinarians ever! They are so good to our kitties.

Dr. Nakamura and the rest of the EBAH team are so great! She is so patient and kind, when sharing results and options for my dog gives me all of the details and information so I can make a good decision. She takes the time to make sure I fully understand and I feel comfortable asking even the dumbest questions. I know they are busy and work super hard, but they all somehow make me feel like my pet is the most important. Everyone is so nice and despite my dog being very nervous at the vet, I trust them with her whole heartedly!

I love this team so much! They are by far the place to go for everything and if you are looking for the best care on phone, in person, via email etc they knock it out of park on all fronts. Thanks to the entire team for years of tender care for my little kitty meow The Waitress! If I could give an extra star I would!

We have been bringing our cats & dogs to Elliot Bay for many years. They have taken amazing care of them--from routine care to illness, cancer, and old age. From Reception to the Pharmacy to the Vets to the Techs, I've always been happy with the service they've provided. Fees are lower than what we paid elsewhere. So happy we found them!

The vets and staff at Elliott Bay have been superlative over 30 years with them. My recent experience was even beyond best expectations. When my newly adopted kitty from a shelter became ill before her first scheduled appointment the staff got her in for an urgent care visit and Dr Grossman remarkably efficiently and warmly got her on track to healing.

Dr. Weihl was recommended to us several years ago. She is amazing and so caring. She took such good care of my Niko the last few years we had him especially at the end. The staff are so friendly, too. I know my pets are in good hands at Elliot Bay Animal Hospital. It took us time to find the right vet but we are so lucky and grateful that we did.

Dr. Nakamura and her team has been providing us expert care for our aging cats. I appreciate her dedication to figuring out their aging ailments and range of in house services offered, and I appreciate a practice that houses more than one doctor. She is also so friendly, calming, and empathetic while dealing with stressful health situations.

EBAH is amazing. Everyone from their administrative staff to the techs to the vets are absolutely wonderful. Kind, professional, so knowledgable, and happy to be there for you and your pet from the routine visits or when something goes wrong. We first came to them during the pandemic while the whole industry has been suffering from staffing burnout and shortages and I have never once seen any sign on it from their staff.
And in the 18 months we've had our senior rescue dog, we've needed to see them a lot and they are always there for us, even if to just reassure us whatever it was isn't another to worry about and especially when we needed some hard to come by specialist care for our girl. They are amazing!

Since me and my pup have moved around a bit we have tried out a good few vet offices. I have to say the level of service, kindness and valuable care we've received here is unparalleled. They have been great for the routine check up but even better dealing with a panicked human during a pet emergency. The follow up care is also something I never expected, from the vet themselves calling you with check-ins to the office sending follow up notes days later via email. Truly have been so impressed and hope this level of service and care becomes industry standard. 10/10 would recommend!

Given they are not accepting new pet clients, this review won't matter much until that changes, but since we started our 3 pups with Elliot Bay AH 3 years ago we have never had anything but great experiences. After moving here and leaving behind a beloved vet, we had very high standards and EBAH has met every one. We are fortunate to have excellent pet insurance [highly recommend for everyone with pets] so cannot really speak to their prices since we get most of our fees reimbursed. All their staff are professional, friendly and extremely attentive to each of our pets needs and differences. Top notch!

I've had three dogs over the years who have been patients at Elliott Bay, and they are kind, compassionate and professional. Our current pup is a rescue who was abused, and he does not like to be touched so any appointments are a challenge. But the staff is awesome and have figured out a protocol to make it work for us. We moved to Kirkland, but I just keep coming back here because they are truly the best.

Last week our cat Foster started having problems breathing-his temperature was high and the hospital took him in immediately even though they were packed. They took him from our car (closed to humans due to. Covid) and cared for him while we waited and we are so grateful. He is home now - continuing on medication' and he is recovering. I am so grateful for this amazing group of professionals - they are first class and they know what they're doing.
I trust them with our cats lives. I don't have children - so our pets are our kids. It's not easy turning them over to a doctor when you have to sit in your car because of an outbreak like Covid. But they treated us with care and checked in on us at home. Thank you to the amazing staff at Elliott Bay Animal Hospital. -Dave

They're ok. I haven't had any horror stories with them yet. All the staff have been nice and courteous. The prices are definitely higher than perhaps a vet in renton. I think the vaccine prices are almost double. I can't imagine how much a cats teeth cleaning would be, so now I diligently brush her teeth everyday. And I do fear the day I need to get an expensive procedure.
Might have to shop around when that day comes. But for now the annual visits are like $200. They did honor the coupon for free exam from the adoption center. I haven't ever been inside in the two years I've been with them so I have no idea if the vet is doing the full due diligence. The notes seem to be relatively thorough. I just read some notes back when I had to get my cats nails trimmed by them and my heart melted when they said my cat was affectionate and well behaved. Answered all my questions and concerns and what I need to be cognizant of.
Pretty straightforward about what tests and vaccines I need to get. Didn't have any issues with them trying to sell me unnecessary test. Although they do try to push the food on you. The staff are pretty responsive to questions via email. And are willing to have a quick call with you to talk answer any questions and they don't bill you for that call either which is nice.
Since they're so close I have no reason to switch providers. Although they are being ridiculously slow with the COVID re-opening. I couldn't go on vacation this year due to being unable to get boarding anywhere. They seem to have less horror stories than Queen Anne vet.

Driving home I felt sad, confused, and regretful. It was as if I did something wrong. Our 4-month old puppy was shaking his head the night before and we were scared that something was crawling in his left ear. Our regular vet is usually booked up and cannot see us the next day so we took our pup to this place because we have always had a good experience trying to get a last-minute emergency triage.
We carefully explained to the tech our situation, how we had seen our regular vet, but our pup's head shaking has not improved and we have observed him shaking his head more often in the past day so we were scared for him. Dr. Burke made us feel so bad for taking our boy to multiple vets when we were just trying to do what is best for him. She said it was a pain to transfer records between vets but isn't that a part of your job?!
She brought up puppy kibble again when the conversation wasn't even about my dog's diet and we did not mention anything about what we fed him. To add insult to injury we told Dr. Burke during our last visit that we had switched our pup to a puppy kibble. Is this sponsored content or what? We were told the appointment would take at least 15 minutes just to take a look in our boy's ear, but we got a call 5 minutes later saying they didn't find anything. My partner and I felt so horrible after this experience like we were doing something wrong.

I am so sad about this place and had been coming here for 6+ years. I am High-Risk and avoid all high traffic areas. So, I was stunned and hurt at how callus Karen when she denied me (in her words: NO EXCEPTIONS and NO SPECIAL accommodations) the use unexpired voucher for free visit for an newly adopted pet from the end of last year. The kicker: I was the one who told them of my situation and that the voucher had no expiration date because the Animal Shelter told me they were closed to COVID for this type of visit due to COVID If she is comfortable with being abrasive with humans, how is she alone with animals? Got to Mercer Animal Hospital. Such nice people and free intial visit now voucher needed!

This review is long overdue, but definitely want to get it up to sing the praises of this amazing Vet Office. The extra care and TLC shines as soon as you walk through the door and it does not stop. Thorough examinations and thoughtful advice, without any unnecessary procedures/costs to the customer (and your special friend). I want to especially shout out Dr. Aimee Kimmel and her tireless approach to loving my cat and dog.
She went above and beyond to ensure my difficult move from the mainland PNW to Hawaii. There's a lot of hoops to jump through that are time-sensitive in order to move your 4-legged children to Hawaii, and she was there every step of the way.even up to the day of the flight while I was standing at the ticketing counter. She was a very busy doctor and even connected with me after hours to ensure all of the I's were dotted and T's were crossed.
If I could give 10 stars, I would! If you are looking for a warm, inviting and special place to have all of your pets' needs cared for, Elliott Bay is the place to go. Sending Aloha back to the mainland! BP

Sick dog and limited resources due to Covid-19 and they really worked hard to do the best for the dog and not add any tests that could maybe wait and be done later if not improving. In addition they threw in a free nail trim! Happy to say that the pup improved after an injection and one dose of medicine! So grateful they helped us and made accommodations for the current situation. I hope to make a donation to them in the future to maybe assist the next person that might need a little extra help. Excellent care with a side of compassion for all.

My little one was super sick, he had deep Pyoderma. The doctor was quick in establishing the cause and took utmost care to make sure the patient and the parents are well taken care of and well informed. My Saint Bernard is huge and they had to sedate him to get to the problem, they made sure he was comfortable and only let him out once his sedatives had worn off.
His treatment is still going on and they respond to calls and make sure that he is up to date with his meds. For any future appointment I'm sure we would be taking both our boys here. Thanks

I have an older pup so even though I've only been in Seattle for a five months, we have been to EBAH several times. The staff is friendly and helpful. You feel that they truly care about the well being of your pet, which means everything to this crazy dog mom! I was referred to EBAH by close friends that have multiple pets and only had positive things to say about the staff and doctors.

I recommend everything about the Elliott Bay Animal Hospital. Their Vets, the assistants, the whole staff. They are all supportive and willing to answer any questions and ready to help at a moments notice. I. especially have to say their "front of the house staff" is exceptional. They all made the most sorrowful moments of our beloved Stevie passing Mar. 2018 as peaceful as that time can be.
Up until then they took care of our 18 year old former feral cat Stevie & "us" in the best possible way. Today they continue to take care of our Minxee. A beautiful, little bit strange Tortie ~Minxee! Thank you to all at EBAH! ( One photo of Minxee this morning.)

I've had mixed experiences at EBAH, but my visit with Dr. Barkley definitely deserves 5 stars. We adopted an eight-year-old Chihuahua back in November and she had some dramatic personality changes over the past few days, including shaking, inability/unwillingness to walk down any steps, and yapping/crying. I was able to get an appointment almost immediately and was seen on time.
I was extremely happy with the care given by Dr. Barkley. She gave a thorough examination to the dog and was very sweet and gentle with her. She would occasionally take a few seconds out of her exam time to hug, pat, or give little kisses to the dog, which was all really lovely. She told me what her suspicions were, and finished the exam with minimal out-of-pocket cost to me.
She answered all of my questions and even looked up our dog food online to check on calories, ingredients etc. She was kind, she was patient, and I believe she was 100% right - the dog bounced back 12 hours after the visit/meds and is now her old snuggly happy self again :-

My kitty & I are relatively new - so far, so good. The front desk & vet techs are helpful, pleasant & compassionate. There's parking, great hours (Saturday apts), and they've found slots to see us when a last minute urgency came up. They're great about accommodating my kitty's needs while she's in their care (keeping her by her carrier, within a crate away from dogs). Dr. Moore, our DVM is FABULOUS. Smart, takes time to succinctly explain things in terms I understand, & makes sure to answer any questions I have in person, phone or thru recep.
Her bedside manner is exceptional. She doesn't try to up-sell & helps me prioritize if I've got budgetary constraints. She has humility and will raise any items needing more specialized diagnosis to the respective expert (Ex: Interpreting x-rays in coordination with a specialized radiologist) before circling back w/me with a comprehensive response.
Other reviews complain the hospital is expensive. They appear comparable to others in the area. For me, it's about finding a DMV who will collaborate with you as a partner in your pet's care plan. I found that here. PS- There's an adorable set of bonded kitten brothers available for adoption at Elliot bay! A black kitty & a Siamese type. They've been there a long time & I when asked, the recep. said the person at Elliot bay who put them up for adoption wants them to go to a home via "word of mouth" vs. advertise for them on Petfinder or anything.
I get it, but they're growing up in the cages & are just too cute not to have a forever home to live their kitten lives, ASAP. They're curious & Loving little purr machines. Best dispositions! Go see these meow meows if you want to add to your family!

Over 20 years providing the best medical care to my many dogs and cats! The best doctors and staff I have found and I have visited a number of local vets for foster animals. EBAH is the only vet where I can honestly say that I would see any of the Doctors on staff. I always know my fur kids are receiving the best care!

My wife and I had been clients there from 2011-2017 and changed only because we moved out of the area. The doctors are so knowledgeable; I felt comfortable with any of my 4 babies being in their care. Kayla, who works in the front office is a particular gem. Like a previous poster, these vets shared their humanity on what was one of the worst days of my life in October.
My wife was in the hospital very ill with pneumonia and H1N1. I came home to check on the animals and noticed my beloved 17 year old Pumpkin cat breathing irregularly. I called them and told them I was coming in and they took me back immediately. Dr Kimmel was gentle but honest when she showed me the x rays of his lungs. They let me spend as much time as I needed with him until it was time.
They treated me with such dignity and respect, sent us a card and shared their love of Pumpkin as he crossed the rainbow bridge. I know that all seems depressing but how a vet operates during the tough times says so much. I miss them and highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a good vet.

Have been taking my dogs here for over 20 years and am very happy with the level of care That my dogs have received. Vets and Vet techs are incredibly nice and have always greeted me with a smile. Dr. Crow has gone out of her way to make sure that we recieve the best care possible. When my 4 year old pitbull with a slight heart murmur needed his teeth she did the cleaning herself.
I am so grateful for the level of care that my pets have received at Elliot Bay. We have Also used Elliot Bay for boarding, my pitbull gets anxious and rubbed his nose on the wall, the staff quickly noticed, contacted me, and started watching him closely, spending time with him and doing all they could to make this experience as pleasant as possible for him. I received photo updates of my dog via txt every day while I was in california.

Impressed every time! This is easily the best vet clinic I've ever dealt with. It's not just one or two people either. Every person I've encountered has been professional, helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. Every. One. Front desk people, vet techs, vets, pharmacy people, office manager. This is a very well run practice too. AND their prices are better than any of the 7+ vets I've gone to in Seattle over 26 yrs.

My experience at Elliot Bay Animal Hospital was truly horrible. If you are looking for a vet who is calm, patient, aware of the dangers of overprescribing antibiotics, and actually seems to be working from a place of experience, do not go to this place. Dr. Barkley evinced no sign that she has any experience with dogs. When she needed to examine my dog who was curled up under the exam table she actually started dragging him out by the leash rather than asking me to get him up for her.
She did not address any of my questions about her diagnosis. She was impatient and dismissive. Any questions I asked were fielded as if I was a negligent parent trying to prevent her from saving my dog's life. I walked out the door with a ridiculous bill and a bag full of medication. I made an appointment with a different vet because I didn't trust one word out of Dr. Barkley's mouth and I was genuinely concerned that her treatment plan would do more harm than good. The second vet confirmed my concern. When you are worried about your pet's health, it is very easy to be taken advantage of by unscrupulous providers. Avoid this place!

Took my 11 y/o weime yesterday for the first time and WOW. What a great experience. Everyone from the start was super friendly. The Vet was fantastic, taking his time to answer all our questions without any rush at all. I felt really comfortable and that made my shy dog feel at ease as well. Great place, 5 stars! 2/14- i wanted to leave a nice review for Dr. Crow because she was exceptionally caring with our weime and us.
It was time to let him go and we did the service at home. She came with Taylor, her amazing tech and they were both so sweet and empathetic. It's never easy to let your doggie go, but doing it at home felt peaceful and not rushed. I want to thank Dr. Crow and the team at Elliott Bay for really caring for the animals and for the humans who also suffer when our babies suffer. You guys are really wonderful.

This was one of the most horrible experiences we have ever had with any vet - being pet owners since 1998. The staff over-charged us not once, not twice but 3 times. Also, they continually ordered unneeded test that almost killed one of our dogs. I have never had such an awful experience with any place in my life. Be careful where you take your animals and make sure they are invested in you and your pet family, I personally felt they were in it for the money - period.
