I wish I had seen these reviews before trying to make arrangements with this "company." It was an absolutely horrible experience and I should have known better based on the phone call I had with the owner. She was impossible to communicate with and we decided not to leave our dog with her after arriving at the house and meeting her. She refused to refund my $300 payment and sent me many many emails and also emailed my office with a two page long letter. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE.

My beautiful sweet labradoodle had his tongue cut during grooming at this facility. I could get over that, Ollie is a tough boy. But then Pam the owner proceeded to tell me "you people who think you'll get a healthy dog are wrong". She said I have a dog who would probably have cancer and be dead in six or seven years! Six days after grooming Ollie got a cough, turns out he had contracted kennel cough from the facility. I do not recommend, unless you don't care about your pet!

Holy Cow! The experience of the previous posters mirrored our experience. This woman is nuts - and she is a scam artist. Took our money up front, kept changing the plans after we already had agreed upon the day and time, Left our dog and another dog alone all day while she was running around Saugerties; then called us while ON VACATION and said we had to come immediately and pick up our dog because the dog at her "antique sheet" music and scratched her piano.

I wanted to ask her "hey nutso, why do you keep antique sheet music around with strange dogs in the house." We happened to be in the area; we got our pup out ASAP and had to pay her extra money for the "damage.' We were suckered. This was several years ago; if this type of thing happened to us now, we would take legal action.

We had a wonderful experience with The Bed & Biscuit. Our dog hates being boarded and always comes home totally freaked out. When we picked him up from The Bed & Biscuit he was relaxed and happy - It was like having him stay with a friend! Shelley is wonderful, she really loves dogs and she has a big beautiful yard for the dogs to run and play. We felt comfortable and relieved to know he was in good hands while we were on vacation.

If there were a no star option, this would be it. The woman is a creative scammer preying on loving dog owners. She talks it up, outright lies and then takes money without giving people a receipt. EVERYthing is prepaid, and no refund policy which you learn after giving her the deposit. Why isn't health department, IRS or ever Social Services tracking this woman. Stay away.

This place is a scam, and the owner is not mentally stable. She tried to change her rate on us last minute acting like it was what we had agreed on, and wanted all cash up front, wouldn't let us see inside (because its a dump), and tried to squeeze an extra night in because 9 am was TOO EARLY to drop off our dog. We declined when we got to the place after seeing what a wreck it was and she flipped and continued to call and harass us after we left even though we had to scramble to find another situation for our dog. I wouldn't trust this woman with a pet rock. Don't waste your time.

I am almost relieved to see other people agree with my assessment of Shelley, the owner of this business. I also deemed her to be mentally imbalanced. I came across a mention of her business on Facebook- not a review, just the name in passing. I needed someone to take care of our small terrier mix (who needs medication) for a long day while my husband and I went to a family event.

I called because her location would be convenient for us to drop off and pickup the dog. She seemed fine for the first few minutes, but then, totally unprompted, started telling me about all the people she had sued in her life. I'm not even sure how the topic came up. One minute I was describing how our dog would need medication at noon and the next minute she's telling me how she once sued a vet, a client, an artist who stole some idea from her etc.

She then went on to tell ask me rather odd questions that bordered on rude about what I do for living. When I mentioned I do something of an artistic nature she started telling me about her artist's club (or some such thing) and would not shut up, even when I told her I had to go. I basically hung up on her. It was just weird. Glad I missed seeing the messy house.

BEWARE! I should have been more careful when Shelly asked for half the money up front in cash or money order. She left me stranded at the last minute before leaving on vacation. I asked several times to see her place before we left and she always had an excuse. We had a drop off time set for the night we were leaving and I called to confirm. She told me that time was not good because it was raining!

I told her I had a schedule to keep and I was going to have to try and find somewhere else to go and she turned NASTY fast. She said I was rude and how dare I be so selfish. She was screaming on the phone and then hung up on me. I emailed her and told her I wanted my money back because she was not able to take my dog when I needed and she told me to stop harrassing her or she would report me!

I would not let her watch a pet rock! Very unstable and in the long run let her keep the money at least my dog was safe for the week. AGAIN BEWARE I hope I save someone from repeating my story.

I kind of frown upon yelp but absolutely had to post a review on this "business" - i use this term incredibly lightly by the way. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG HERE. the owner, shelly, knows nothing about dogs, has horrible accomodations (house/yard is a complete dump) and is apparently totally unstable. i know all of this because of her behavior. for starters, when she first met our dog (who, admittedly, is a bit skittish around strangers), she stuck her HAND IN HIS FACE. this strikes me as incredibly odd for someone who supposedly works with dogs - they teach you not to do that when you're a little kid. this is also probably why you have to pay her in full, in cash. we were five minutes away and had to turn around to pick up our dog - because we couldn't do it to him, even though it messed with our plans. while we were en route she called and told us to come get him and that we have a horrible dog who is out of control and evil. ah yes, it's clearly the DOG'S fault that you are mentally ill. when we asked for our money back, she was really dodgy about it and told us that we had inconvenienced HER! meanwhile, we had guests arriving at our home with two small children and were trying to get home as soon as possible so they wouldn't arrive to an empty house. when we told her we weren't leaving without our money and i busted out my phone to call the police, she went inside, got the money then gave us all of it except $20 for her inconvenience. my boyfriend rightly pointed out that we were the ones who were being inconvenienced and she should be giving US $20 for the gas money! at this point, she went ballastic, ripped the $20 into a few pieces and threw it in his face! unbelievable. i don't trust this person around dogs, people, gophers or any other living creature and think it's repulsive that people can post a nice looking website and be so deceitful and horrible in reality. i wish there was a BBB in saugerties so that i could report her to it - i have already reported her to the humane society and the ASPCA.

This place is not a business but a scam. We left out vacation early because we did not feel safe boarding our dog any longer with this woman. The place is FILTHY and unaccommodating. The owner sleeps most of the day so there are limited hours to pick up your dog or drop off your dog. Speaking with her in person and on the phone is enough of a sign that she is not trustworthy---We should have gone with our gut and not used her in the first place. Seriously--stay away from this place/woman.
Dewey's Pal
Jul 04, 2010
Our 13-year-old Portuguese Water Dog, Dewey, has been going to Bed and Biscuit for over five years for extended stays of up to 2 weeks. He has never had a bad experience, and Shelley is one of the most caring doggy people I have ever met. We never worry when Dewey is in her care. In fact, after he had an episode in November of "Old Dog Syndrome" that adversely impacted his balance and his ability to walk, he recovered enough to go to Bed and Biscuits in December even though he had some vestigial inner-ear issues.

He moved slowly and seemed somewhat depressed. After two weeks at B&B with Shelley and the dogs in residence, when he came home he had more energy than he has had in years. That vitality has remained with him and is still apparent today. I chalk it up to a revitalizing stay in a loving, caring environment with vigorous interaction with other well-cared for, well-balanced, well-loved dogs. I can't think of anywhere I would rather send Dewey when we have to leave the country for an extended period and cannot take him with us.
